Pests, Winter, and Your Home: Why the Three Should Never Cross

Pests love to be warm as much as you do. They love heated spaces where they can snuggle in against the cold of winter while waiting for warmer weather to return. They might like the inside of your home so much—since there may be plenty to eat and drink and no predators—that they might decide to stay, and that could lead to trouble down the road for you and your family. This is when it’s time to call in the pest management professionals at Bain.

Home Invasion

Late fall and winter are generally the times when pests stage a home invasion. They will get inside any way they can. Through cracks around water or gas pipes, doorjambs that are not tight, and roof eaves that are damaged or loose, pests will find a way in.

Diseases

When pests get into your house, they bring in more than just themselves. When pests have infiltrated a space like your home, you are more susceptible to some of the diseases they may carry. For instance, various viral diseases are carried by rat and mouse saliva, feces, and urine, and they can also bring in hantavirus—not things you want yourself or your kids exposed to.

Worse, they can carry fleas or ticks, and if you have pets that get fleas, it will be difficult to eradicate the problem. Perhaps worst of all is Lyme disease caused from a tick bite.

Spoiled Food

Insects that get into your home can easily spoil your food, especially in places like a pantry full of packaged goods. Rats and mice will do the same thing, leaving droppings and urine in their wake.

Winter is also big for cockroach infestations because, like every other critter, roaches are looking for warmth, food, and water, and they will go out of their way to find it, especially when the weather begins to cool down.

Prime Time

Winter is prime time for pests wanting to get inside your home, so you should take time in the fall to make sure your home is sealed tight to prevent access.

However, it isn’t practical for everyone to inspect and seal their homes to prevent pest infestations in the winter, and that’s where the pest management professionals at Bain Pest Control Service come in. We can work with you on a strategy to keep pests out, and we will control them if they are already inside.

Our pest management professionals at Bain Pest Control Service are the best in the business, and if you have questions about pests, such as how they can get inside and what we can do about it, please contact us. We have the answers to your questions, and our pest management professionals have the solutions for all of your pest management needs.
